Surfing

Sri Lanka is a renowned surf destination for all levels of experience. There are waves to learn to stand on a surfboard and there are tubes on shallow waters with sea urchins that make the wave even more exciting – the surfers know what it really means! Sri Lanka is year-round and stands out as one of the most reliable surf destinations in the Indian Ocean.

Since the early 60’s this tiny magical island attracts surfers from all over the world. The best surf spots in Sri Lanka are located on the south and east coasts, Hikkaduwa and Arugam Bay are the most frequent, but there are many “hidden spots” like Unawatuna, Ahangama, Weligama, Mirissa or Okanda where you can always find uncomplicated surf.

Although there is are two surf seasons, November-April in down south and May-October in the east coast, you can find a good session outside the seasons if you follow up with the locals.
